Sirenia is a gothic metal band from Stavanger, Norway which incorporates a mixture of gothic metal and symphonic metal, as well as extreme metal and death metal elements. The vocals consist of death grunts, operatic female vocals and a clean male singer. The lyrics, written by Morten Veland, tell a loose conceptual story that began at Widow's Weeds, while he was still a member of Tristania. The band uses melodic instrumentals, synthesizers, and distorted guitars with female vocals, male death vocals, clean male vocals, a choir, and violins. The lyrics are concerned with human existence, emotion, and mental states. Salem, the first extreme metal band in Israel was formed in 1985, A large part of their work deals with political issues concerning the Jewish people and Israel, most notably the concept album Kaddish (1994) and Collective Demise (2002). and is considered to be one of the first bands in the worldwide underground metal scene to play brutal black metal. This can be heard in their self-titled rehearsal tape from 1986 and their live demo Destruction Till Death from 1987, recorded at the legendary 'Penguin' club, the only outlet for alternative music in Israel throughout the 1980's. This formula was later perfected by bands such as Beherit and Blasphemy in the early 1990's. After 5 years of a successful underground career the band released another live demo Millions Slaughtered (1990), with a new line-up and a genre shift towards the death\doom realms. This sold 1,500 copies and lead to a record deal with the German label Morbid Records. Sworn Enemy is a crossover thrash/metalcore band from New York City. They are managed by Tim Lambesis from As I Lay Dying. The band formed in 1997 as Mindset, a product of the extremely expansive and influential New York Hardcore scene. Since its inception the band has centered around vocalist Sal Lococo and guitarist Lorenzo Antonucci. The band's early output as Mindset was limited to a demo, an appearance on the New Found Hope II - The First Amendment compilation CD, and a 3 song 7 inch named State Of Mind. Soon after the State Of Mind release, another band named Mindset appeared on the underground metal scene, having existed as Mindset before the Queens Mindset.
